BENFICANewcastle United vs Benfica Pre-season friendly match: date, start time and broadcast methodmarkovrakela24 july 2022

Newcastle United’s pre-season excitement is starting to pick up as they head to the Estadio da Luz to face Portuguese giants Benfica in an exciting warmup.

Soroka’s fourth pre-season match, scheduled for Tuesday 26 July at 20:00 Moscow time, ended in a disappointing 1-0 loss to Mainz 05.

Eddie Howe’s team beat England minor league side Gateshead 5-0 in the first game of the summer, scoring three unanswered goals in the next match.

The loss to Mainz put the brakes on Newcastle’s excellent pre-season record, but they have no time to complain about it.

Tuesday’s meeting with Benfica kicked off a busy week for Tyneside’s powerhouse, with two more exhibition matches over the next four days.

Three days after beating the Eagles, Newcastle will face Athletic Bilbao before kicking off the new Premier League season at Atalanta on 29 July and Nottingham Forest the next day.

How to watch the match?
Each of the three remaining Magpies off-season games will be available to watch online with live football streams.

Match Preview
Newcastle United

Inspired by several key winter signings, including Dan Burn and Chris Wood, Newcastle changed their fortunes in the second half of last season.

Howe, during his relatively short tenure as manager at St James’ Park, was crucial in turning one of the most relegated candidates into the Premier League mid-table team.

Back-to-back wins against Burnley and Arsenal to wrap up a turbulent 2021/22 Premier League season set the stage for future growth and wealthy new owners expect more from the same period.

With the summer arrival of Nick Pope and Sven Botman, Newcastle’s slightly porous defense will now look much more stable and compact.

Benfica

Despite Darwin Nunez’s loss to Liverpool this summer, Benfica are showing a strong pre-season performance.

Led by new manager Roger Schmidt, the Eagles won all four exhibition games by several goals, including a 5-1 defeat to Premier League newcomers Fulham.

In addition, the Portuguese heavyweights beat Reading 2-0 in their first pre-season match, scoring 3+ goals in all of the next three games.

Benfica fondly remembers previous experiences against Newcastle in the 2012/13 Europa League quarter-finals, where they won 3-2 on aggregate.

How can Newcastle play against Benfica?
(4-3-3): Nick Pope; Kieran Trippier, Dan Byrne, Sven Botman, Matt Targett; Joelinton, Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Willock; Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson.

What’s next for Newcastle?
Howe’s team will play three warm-up games from Tuesday to Friday in preparation for the 2022/23 Premier League game away at Forest on 6 August.

Newcastle’s first home game of the new league season will take place on 21 August as two consecutive champions Manchester United arrive at St James’ Park.

A potentially difficult trip to Amex Stadium to beat Brighton & Hove Albion, stuck between the two aforementioned fixtures, will help the Magpies get into a rhythm ahead of City’s visit.
