Once it is announced that golf at the Olympics will become a small, barrier-free event, Xander Schauffele should flourish. On Sunday, the American won the gold medal at the Kasumikan Country Club with a score of 68. In a wild Sunday golf tournament outside of Tokyo, Rory Sabbatini defeated Rory by one shot. · Sabbatini.
Sabbatini was out a few groups before Schauffele and scored a shocking 61 under 10 under par, injecting power into what appeared to be Schauffele’s loss earlier in the day. Sabbatini’s strokes, competing with his wife in the bag under the Slovak flag (see below), running on the board, plus the difficulty of finishing any golf tournament, seemed to have affected the night.
After the first perfect nine holes, Scheuffele started to slip a bit as he reached the final. A tee shot almost went out of bounds, so he thinned his iron in the woods because his club was entangled in vines, so he swallowed 6 bogeys on a par 5 at the 14th hole. The situation may be worse. He used the clutch to catch birdies from the green-side bunker on the 17th hole, then hit a shot of his life on the 18th hole. The 98-yard 3-foot gold medal, when he absolutely must have it to avoid the playoffs with Sabbatini.
