Sant Adria de Besos (Barcelona), September 23 (EFE).- Catalonia’s future digital, audiovisual and videogame hub, which will locate the three chimneys of the old thermal plant in Sant Adria del Besos (Barcelona), opened this Friday. To complete it by 2030 with a “photograph” and a “strong commitment” from all administrations, universities and industrial sectors.

A fundamental part of this hub is the Catalunya Media City (CMC), which will be located in the Turbine Building, right next to the three giant chimneys that have dominated the Barcelona coastline skyline for decades and will remain so. Space for research, production and post-production with an estimated required investment of 450 million euros.

The Minister of Culture, Natalia Garriga, mentioned in the presentation of the project this Friday that the Catalunya Media City will be “a research and production center for the audiovisual and video game sector; and it will also have an innovation center, which will have the most advanced technologies and will aim to serve producers.”

This space, continued Garriga, should also include training related to the world of audiovisual and videogames, which would encourage vocational training and universities to create the most technical teams needed in production.

According to Garriga, the CMC will have “state-of-the-art set and user experience (UX) testing rooms; spaces for interactive content creation; artificial intelligence project labs; 5G and robotics; sound reinforcement and podcast recording studios; a data center with high connectivity for remote production and editing. or an e-sports stadium”.

The administrations are confident that this space will attract companies linked to the audiovisual, video game and digital sectors from suppliers, producers, developers and other members of the production chain.

More than 2,000 audiovisual companies in Catalonia have a turnover of 12,000 million euros and employ around 14,000 workers, a sector that “creates an imaginary both within us and outside the door” and which “has a lot of talent in the artistic part, but also the technical part”.

Another sector involved in the project, the video game sector, has 200 companies, 4,000 workers, most of whom are under 45 years old.

Generalitat’s president, Pere Aragonés, highlighted that the hub is one of Catalonia’s key projects for the next decade, with its ability to “transform” the entire Besos area and attract both domestic and international investment and talent.

“It will be before and after. A project planned for the whole of Catalonia, which will affect the living conditions of a part of the country that has a great potential for development”, he noted, referring to the municipality located on the banks of the Beso.

After acknowledging that this corner of Catalonia has historically been missing in Bezos’s mouth, the president emphasized that all eyes are now on him by hosting this hub that will be “key” for a country that wants to be “competitive.” And the full potential of Barcelona as the capital of Europe and the Catalans. wants to take advantage of the projection”.

For his part, Jordi Puignero, Vice President of the Generalitat and Minister of Digital Policies and Regions, described the hub as a “domestic project”, which will turn the Besos region into an “iconic” area linked to technology and sustainability.

The axis on which the hub is based, Puignero points out, is the Barcelona Cable Landing Station, the first digital port for the submarine fiber optic cable that will connect Catalonia to the rest of the world and which is located in this same area. of Sant’Adria.

The event, which took place at the Besos campus of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), a few meters from the three chimneys of the old thermal plant, did not specify a deadline or investment, pending the approval of the new urban plan. On the banks of the river Besòs, which could become a reality next week.

The Three Chimneys Urban Master Plan affects an area of 23 hectares and includes facilities, a large metropolitan park, housing and space for economic activity.

The Minister of Culture assured that “the calendar will not be shortened” and a long-term horizon is proposed, so that it becomes fully realized in 2030, although its promoters intend that “it will be delivered at different times. Periodically, so that citizens can see the progress of the global project. .”

The mayors of Sant Adria and Badalona, respectively Filo Canete and Ruben Guizarro, as well as the deputy mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Marti, agreed that the project would help revitalize an area that had been forgotten for many years and where great progress was built from the neighborhood and labor movement.
