Santa Cruz de Tenerife (EFE).- The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has declared a maximum alert since 00:00 Saturday morning due to rain across the autonomous community this Friday. A large area south of the archipelago is experiencing rain and thunderstorms.

Conditions are expected to be conducive to the development of a tropical depression and the forecast is that this process will primarily affect the west (southwest) region of the autonomous community beginning on Saturday, extending to the entire archipelago over the weekend.

Heavy rainfall in the form of showers is also expected, which may be of moderate intensity, it cannot be ruled out that they are locally strong or very strong and it cannot be ruled out that rainfall equal to or greater than 60-100. Liters per square meter in 24 hours.

The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies does not rule out that there are storms or rainstorms that frequently produce heavy and short-lived rains.

In view of this forecast, it recommends that citizens pay attention to the weather forecast and the recommendations of the authorities in this regard and to check the condition of roofs, flat roofs and water drums as well as drains and down spouts and that, even if the sky is clear, do not park the car on the canyon bed.

It recommends keeping flashlights and candles ready, as well as keeping windows and doors closed and secured to prevent water ingress, along with a camping-gas stove in anticipation of a lack of electricity, drinking water, medicine and a battery-powered radio.

Other recommendations are to avoid hiking or camping and travel until normalcy is restored. EFE
