Madrid (EFE).- The Minister of Finance, María Jesus Montero, advanced this Thursday that “the government is working” on the possibility of creating a new temporary tax for large fortunes in line with United We Can and that proposal. It will come into effect from January 1, 2023.
Speaking to reporters in the halls of Congress, Montero defended the need to “ask for a greater effort” from those with extraordinary benefits, such as energy companies, and from “higher incomes.”Montero avoided detailing the possible future tax, because “technologists must be allowed to work,” but noted that it would be temporary – just like the tax on energy companies and banks, which would remain in force for both. year
The new tax will be effective from January 1, 2023
The minister also indicated his intention that the tax would come into force at the beginning of next year, although “processing remains to be seen”, and he did not reveal whether it would be included in the 2023 budget.
This tax will differ from the current wealth tax, which is levied on assets over 700,000 euros – excluding 300,000 euros on habitual residence-, transferred to the autonomous communities and fully subsidized by Madrid (and soon Andalusia and Murcia).
